The first day of this adventure to Manu National Park from Cusco begins early at 5:30 a.m., when our bilingual guide will pick you up from your hotel to start the journey to one of the most astonishing and well-protected natural parks in South America. During this trip, you will discover spectacular landscapes, Andean culture, and the incredible biodiversity that characterizes this region of Peru.
After approximately an hour and a half of travel from Cusco, we will arrive at Ninamarca, an ancient archaeological site where pre-Inca funerary towers stand on top of a mountain. Here, together with your guide, you will learn about the history and meaning of these ancestral structures while enjoying an impressive view of the Andean landscape.
Continuing the journey for about 30 minutes more, we will reach the traditional town of Paucartambo, famous for its cobblestone streets and colonial architecture. Here we will have time to enjoy a typical breakfast and take a short walk through its historic center, allowing you to experience the local atmosphere and learn about some of the customs of this charming town.
After leaving Paucartambo, we will begin the ascent along a scenic road until reaching Ajanaco, located at 3,600 meters (11,811 feet) above sea level. This point marks the entrance to Manu National Park, recognized as one of the most biodiverse natural areas on the planet and declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Here we will take a short walk of approximately 7 minutes to a natural viewpoint. From this point you will enjoy a breathtaking view of the mountains of Tres Cruces, the vast Andean cloud forest, and the beginning of the Manu Amazon rainforest—an ideal setting for photographs and for appreciating how the landscape changes as we approach the Amazon.
From Ajanaco we will begin the descent into the Manu cloud forest, a unique ecosystem where constant mist creates a mysterious environment full of life. During our walk through this natural setting we will look for various bird species such as the blue-banded toucanet, the golden-headed quetzal, and the crested quetzal.
With some luck you may also spot the Andean bear, one of the rarest and most emblematic species of this region. This environment hosts a great diversity of flora and fauna that makes the cloud forest one of the most fascinating parts of the journey.
By mid-morning we will reach the area of San Pedro, where we will enjoy an outdoor lunch in a special location surrounded by the natural sounds of the rainforest.
After lunch we will visit a section of the forest where you can observe the Andean cock-of-the-rock, the national bird of Peru, famous for its bright red plumage and its unique courtship display. This is one of the most special moments of the trip for bird-watching enthusiasts.
Along the route it will also be possible to observe woolly monkeys, wild orchids, and a wide variety of tropical birds, making this area of Manu a true paradise for nature lovers.
At 5:00 p.m. we will arrive at Bambú Lodge, a cozy lodge surrounded by rainforest where you can rest and enjoy a peaceful environment in the heart of the Amazon.
In the evening you will have the option to participate in a night walk in the jungle. Equipped with flashlights and rubber boots, we will explore the forest in search of fascinating nocturnal creatures such as tarantulas, poison frogs, snakes, armadillos, and night monkeys. During this experience you will discover how the jungle comes alive in a completely different way after nightfall.

After breakfast, we will start a walk along the Amazonian trails of Manu, where the songs of birds such as parrots, macaws, and toucans will accompany us throughout the journey. During this walk we will visit the Pico de Hoz Viewpoint and the Hummingbird Viewpoint, two strategic spots where it is possible to observe different species of wildlife that inhabit this region.
From these viewpoints you may observe animals such as the jungle condor, toucans, hummingbirds, and many other species that form part of the park’s extraordinary biodiversity. Our guide will also share interesting information about Amazonian medicinal plants, including the coca leaf, used by local communities since ancient times.
During the walk it is common to encounter different species of primates such as squirrel monkeys and titi monkeys, known for their agility and curious behavior among the trees of the rainforest.
Later we will head toward the peaceful Machuwasi Lake, a lagoon surrounded by lush tropical vegetation. Here we will board a traditional wooden raft, ideal for slow navigation while enjoying the natural landscapes of Manu.
This is one of the best places for birdwatching in Manu National Park. During the ride it is very likely to observe the hoatzin, one of the oldest birds in the Amazon, as well as herons, cormorants, and kingfishers that live around the lagoon.

At 2:30 p.m. we will begin the return trip to Cusco. During the journey you will once again enjoy the landscapes of the cloud forest and the Andean mountains that accompany the route. Arrival in the city of Cusco is expected at approximately 8:30 p.m., when we will transfer you to your hotel to rest after this unforgettable experience.
