Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Cloud Forest – Paucartambo – Pilcopata

We begin the tour with pick-up from your hotel, early in the morning, between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., aboard a comfortable private bus. The journey starts along a scenic route, where the first stop will be at the Funerary Towers or Chullpas of Ninamarca, located at 3,750 meters above sea level. This archaeological site stands out for its historical value and the impressive views of the Andean landscape.

Then, we continue towards Paucartambo, a picturesque folkloric town known for its famous colonial bridge. Here you can appreciate traditional architecture and part of the local culture before ascending to the Acjanaco sector, at 4,000 meters of altitude, the entry point to Manu National Park.

From this point, we begin the descent into the mysterious cloud forest, home to a great variety of flora and wildlife. Along the way, it is possible to admire orchids, heliconias, and primitive ferns, as well as observe unique bird species such as trogons, quetzals, and the colorful Andean Cock-of-the-Rock (Rupicola peruviana), the national bird of Peru. With a bit of luck, you may even spot the elusive Spectacled Bear (Tremarctos ornatus).

In the afternoon, we arrive at the town of Pilcopata, located at 550 meters above sea level. Here you will find our cozy typical lodge, surrounded by nature and away from the population. The accommodation has private bathrooms and showers to ensure a comfortable stay, ideal for resting and continuing to discover the natural and cultural richness offered by this part of Manu.

Day 2: Pilcopata – Atalaya – Machuwasi – Rainforest Lodge

After enjoying a delicious breakfast, we will continue the trip by bus towards Atalaya, on a journey of approximately 45 minutes down to 490 meters above sea level. From this point, we will board a boat for a 30-minute ride along the river until we reach Rainforest Lodge, where we will spend the night in comfortable facilities with private bathrooms and showers.

During the boat trip, it will be possible to observe a great variety of animals in their natural habitat, a perfect experience for those who want to get closer to the Amazonian biodiversity. Upon arrival, we will enjoy a traditional lunch before continuing with the afternoon activities.

In the afternoon, we will visit Machuwasi Lagoon, a place surrounded by vegetation and wildlife. There, we will take a ride on a traditional catamaran, ideal for appreciating the tranquility of the landscape and discovering unique species. Among the most striking birds is the Hoatzin (Ophisthocomus hoazin), accompanied by monkeys, reptiles, insects, and dwarf caimans. With a bit of luck, it will also be possible to spot capybaras (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris), the largest rodents in the world.

At nightfall, an exciting optional night trekking program will be offered, a highly recommended experience for those who wish to explore the Amazon rainforest in its most mysterious state. Finally, we will return to the lodge, where the rooms equipped with private bathrooms and showers guarantee a comfortable and relaxing rest, before continuing to discover the cultural and natural richness of Manu.

Day 3: Parrot Clay Lick – Cocha Maravilla

Early in the morning, we will navigate by boat to the green parrot clay lick, a clay wall rich in minerals. Here, between three and four species of parrots can be observed feeding in their natural habitat. This spectacle is unique, as these birds consume the clay to neutralize toxins present in their diet.

After this experience, we will return by boat and continue with a forest walk to discover the imposing giant tree, one of the largest representatives of the Amazon rainforest. During the hike, it will be possible to see different birds, monkeys, small reptiles, dwarf caimans, and insects.

In the afternoon, we will return to the lodge to enjoy lunch and rest. The environment offers tranquility, ideal for relaxing before the next activity.

At dusk, there is the option of taking night walks. This excursion allows you to discover sounds and species that only appear in the dark, such as insects and small mammals, creating a different and exciting experience.

At the end of the day, we will return to the lodge, where the rooms are equipped with private bathrooms and showers to ensure comfort during the stay. It will be the perfect moment to regain energy before the last day of adventure in the cultural zone of Manu.

Day 4: Rainforest Lodge – Atalaya – Cusco

After a final and delicious breakfast at the lodge, it will be time to say goodbye to this unique Amazonian environment. We will begin the return journey by boat along the Madre de Dios River until reaching Atalaya, where ground transportation will be waiting for us. This route allows us, once again, to enjoy the jungle landscape that characterizes the cultural zone of Manu, with its great diversity of flora and fauna.

From Atalaya, we will continue the trip by bus towards Cusco. Along the way, we will once again cross the impressive cloud forest, a region full of mystery and beauty that connects the rainforest with the Andes. This transition is ideal for observing, one last time, the natural contrasts that make this protected area so special.

As we ascend, the change in climate and vegetation marks the end of the Amazonian experience. The trip is scheduled to arrive in Cusco at approximately 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., completing four days of adventure in a unique natural environment. Each moment of the journey has been designed so that participants can take away unforgettable memories and a deeper connection with the biodiversity of Manu.

This conclusion not only marks the end of the itinerary but also offers the opportunity to reflect on the cultural and biological richness found in this region of Peru. The experience combines direct contact with the rainforest, the observation of emblematic species, and the comfort of lodges prepared to provide a safe stay. Without a doubt, this journey through the cultural zone of Manu will be remembered as a unique experience for those seeking nature, tranquility, and adventure.
