Itinerary

Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Sandoval Lodge – Night Exploration

We will pick you up at the airport or bus station and transfer you to our office to complete registration and explain everything you’ll need to start your jungle adventure. From there, we will head to the dock and board a boat that will take us to the lodge, a journey of approximately 40 minutes along the river, where you can enjoy the scenery and feel yourself entering the Peruvian Amazon.

Upon arrival, you will be welcomed with a refreshing juice made from local fruits while our guide explains the lodge policies and some important details for your stay. Then, we will settle into the assigned rooms so you can rest and prepare for the walk we will start later.

After a delicious lunch and a short nap, you will embark on a two-hour walk through the dense rainforest, accompanied by our expert local guide along trails that will allow you to discover medicinal plants and centuries-old trees that can live more than six hundred years, while observing monkeys, parrots, macaws, armadillos, reptiles, insects, frogs, spiders, and other fascinating jungle creatures. Get ready to feel the energy of Mother Jungle and enjoy magical moments within the Tambopata National Reserve, connecting with nature at every step and admiring the richness of Amazonian wildlife.

As night falls, we will take a boat ride along the riverbanks to observe nocturnal animals, where you may see alligators of different sizes, owls, chotoyos, and, if luck is on your side, the impressive capybaras—the largest rodents in the world. Finally, we will return to the lodge for dinner and a well-deserved rest after a first day full of adventures and unforgettable jungle experiences.

Day 2: Lake Sandoval – Return to Puerto Maldonado

You will start the day early to make the most of one of the best times to observe abundant wildlife: sunrise. We will set out by boat to Lake Sandoval, located within the Tambopata National Reserve, and along the way, you will enjoy the sounds and colors of the jungle surrounding the river.

To reach the lake, you will walk along a wooden trail of almost 3 km (1.8 miles), accompanied by our guide, who will show you the rich wildlife and the diversity of plants that make this place a unique ecosystem. Keep your eyes open and get ready to be amazed by monkeys, birds, and other creatures inhabiting the trail.

At the end of the trek, you will find a small dock where we will board a boat to explore Lake Sandoval and discover its incredible biodiversity. During this ride, you will observe black caimans, giant otters, herons, turtles, monkeys, macaws, wild ducks, and many other fascinating species. Enjoy every moment and capture the magic of nature in its purest state.

We will return to the lodge before noon to enjoy a delicious lunch. Depending on your flight or bus schedule, we can adjust arrival to have lunch earlier or later, ensuring comfort and peace before your departure. After lunch, we will transfer you back to Puerto Maldonado, where the experience concludes and we will accompany you to the airport or bus station according to your schedule.

In the Tambopata National Reserve, thanks to the lodge service and the natural environment full of unique and protected species, you will live an unforgettable experience, combining comfort, adventure, and direct contact with Amazonian nature.
